Director of El Paso Nonprofit Organization to Testify before House Judiciary Committee on the Topic of Immigration

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Estrella del Paso Executive Director & Attorney Melissa M. Lopez will testify before the House Judiciary Committee on the topic of immigration and the border.

Ms. Lopez is an attorney who has spent her 17-year law career working with and representing immigrants in immigration matters. As someone who was born and raised in El Paso, Ms. Lopez offers a valuable perspective of the true reality of border life, and the positive impact immigrants have on communities. Ms. Lopez’s background and experience qualify her to offer sensible solutions when it comes to the U.S. response to immigrants arriving at our borders.

“For many years, El Paso non-profit organizations have provided support and assistance to migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, victims of trafficking, and other migrants facing dangerous conditions. As the leader and representative of the largest legal service provider in our region, I can without a doubt state that most immigrants are law abiding people. When given lawful pathways to the United States, people follow those pathways. Currently few pathways exist for people fleeing for their lives,” said Lopez.
